To continue on from Part 1, of A Break Down of Social Media Channels, I will be discussing Google My Business and Youtube.

Google & Youtube both go hand in hand so it is a perfect time to set up a Google My Business account.


Have you ever searched a local company through Google and discovered all the companies details turn up on the right-hand side of your laptop search or come up first on your mobile search? This is what comes from adding your business to Google My Business!

It displays everything from your company name, address, telephone number and any social media businesses or websites you add to it. To top this, your business is also added to Google Maps meaning your customers are able to locate your company easier!

I would recommend this for small business owners who have a brick and mortar store as it really does help gain potential customers who wouldn’t generally visit your business and increase enquiries to your business via your website, social media or phone number attached.

Not only is Youtube a wealth of information, it is also the perfect place to add videos from your business. Let’s check out the statistics:

  • Youtube has over 1 billion users – almost one-third of all internet users have a Youtube account.
  • The average viewing session per Youtube user is approximately 40 minutes
  • More than half of Youtube users watch videos on their mobile phone

For your own business, Youtube is a brilliant way for both making videos and sharing them. The videos you produce can also be embedded in your website with the handy code the can be found when you click share on your videos.

The videos you produce can be as simple or as complex as you like,  anything from unboxing new products to a look around your store work very well!

All videos you create will be automatically added to your Businesses Google+ (will be discussed in a later post) account which means they will come up in the Google Search when potential customers are looking for businesses like your own.

In addition, video descriptions can be used to help your SEO!

I suggest, if you are a brick and mortar business, setting up Google My Business before you set up any other social media account as it will come back to your tenfold!
